Zipline has been licensed as an airline carrier in the United States

According to the company, approval by the Civil Aeronautics Administration Committee will allow for a major expansion of its supply range.

“We are one step closer to making safe, clean and quiet instant delivery a reality for communities across the US,” said Keller Rinaudo, chief executive officer at Zipline.

Many rivals' drones take off vertically; in difference, Zipline's aircraft take to the skies like regular airplanes and can travel long distances.

Rinaudo said the company is also looking forward to licensing an automated air traffic control system for the drones to keep them away from other flying devices. The new system uses microphones that can detect aircraft sounds even in clouds.
