Diamond Foundry announced the creation of the world's first single-crystal diamond wafer

With extreme thermal conductivity and electrical insulation, such a diamond can increase the speed of today's most exciting technologies. The new development can make AI, cloud computing and wireless communications three times faster and power electronics six times smaller.

“New science had to be discovered over three decades of persistent work to achieve this matrix: How to make the first ten atoms of a deposition believe there is a diamond base even if there is not. Controlling those atoms over the wafer area in the exact right way is a mind-boggling challenge. And doing so that they then form a single crystal is plain magical,” the company said on its website.

Diamond Foundry also announced the development of the DF Perseus inverter, which is six times more compact than Tesla 3’s, but more productive and efficient. The first prototypes of the DF Perseus have been successfully tested in tier-1 automotive OEM laboratories.

In 2025, Diamond Foundry plans to begin production of single-crystal diamond chips with a total volume of 10 million carats. The product will be designed for the semiconductor industry as well as for general customers. The $850 million project is being carried out in Trujillo with the support of the Spanish government.
